Many years ago I had a job to organise the factory closing party at the Terry’s Chocolate Factory - the owners wanted everyone to have been removed into the car park so they could lock the factory behind them so no one could steal or break things!
It was such a sad way to treat people who had for generations crafted such a beautiful product!
For several years we were trying to find the right home for our chocolate factory and worked with the developers of the site to imagine our plans, but a lack of electricity and movement on the site we started to look elsewhere and on our first day of looking we found our current site on Castlegate. We instantly realised the importance of looking forward and not being too stuck to the past!
It’s great to see the old factory site now occupied and brought to life - but we’ve been reminded of the journey when hearing the news that the iconic chocolate brand once crafted in the city has yet again been sold!
There is so much to love about Terry’s original masterpiece, the innovation, the quality, the novelty, and the nostalgia.
Let’s hope the new owners can help the icon find its way! Meanwhile for a classic chocolate treat - make sure you discover our Chocolate Orange Hot Chocolate!
