This Easter we were delighted to welcome BBC Masterchef personality Leyla Kazim exploring, unsurprisingly chocolate!
Leyla explored our chocolate making process at York Cocoa Works as well as the many chocolate celebrations taking place as part of York Chocolate Festival before heading on up the road to discover a chocolate brand that's been fully embracing the "Dubai" Chocolate bar craze!
We've often been asked if we have any of the "Dubai" chocolate - and while I must admit there is something enjoyable about a well made creation it's not in our wheelhouse!
Firstly - we aim to use local ingredients where we can and while I know we don't grow cocoa beans in York - we definitely don't grow Pistachios!
Secondly - being an accessible chocolate factory is really important to me personally, having spend so many years being unable to eat so many foods, I have a lot of empathy for visitors who join us with dietary requirements and so working with nuts is something we choose not to do!
Thirdly - When everyone's doing it it's just not that special - we'd rather do what we do really well rather than chasing trends that are often over before they've really begun.
Finally - if you're a lover of the Dubai chocolate craze we'd really recommend our friend Florian Poirot and his chocolate shop on Shambles, Florian has been crowned one of THE best Confectioners in the world, we're lucky to have had his support when we opened York Cocoa Works, and his Praline creations are just amazing!
